Green digital printing: the alternative for an environmentally responsible future

Yes, also for digital printing it is now possible to find alternative sustainable solutions, more environmentally friendly.
What is ecological Digital Printing?

Today it is a common theme and almost everyone, individually but also organizations and companies, knows the impact that certain actions have on the environment.
Whether by choosing less polluting transport methods, changing the type of light bulbs used, worrying about efficient recycling or, for example, looking for products of certified origin, there are many choices we can make every day to avoid a future marked by scarcity of resources and major climate change.

Thus, Digital Printing has also evolved, creating “greener” solutions that reduce the environmental impact of the entire printing process - production of machines, use of inks and materials to be customized.
These “green” technologies help reduce pollution, waste and energy consumption during production. It can sometimes even allow for a reduction in printing costs.

Curious?
Portus Team explains the 3 main alternatives to maintain the quality of your Digital Prints respecting the environment and, sometimes, obtaining several extra benefits.

Replace solvent for water-based inks

Composed of up to 65% water, this alternative allows printing in spaces without ventilation, or, for example, on toys, leaving no odors.
Reducing the dispersion of volatile organic compounds, being not only more ecological but also safer, despite being a relatively recent alternative, the results achieved are exceptional.

Opt for PVC FREE materials

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride), when incorporated with additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, pigments or foaming agents, for example, to acquire strength and stability, is extremely difficult to recycle.

The alternative is, therefore, to use new PVC-free printing materials, such as tarpaulins made of biodegradable polypropylene, 100% paper boards, ecological vinyl or PVC-free polyester or cotton fabrics, which are easier to recycle and, in some cases, 100% recyclable.

An innovative example of this type of material, made available by Portus since 2021, is the Easy Dot Adhesive, by Neschen.
Made of polyester and composed of 25% recycled material, it is PVC Free, and durable for 2 years, both indoors and outdoors..

Use fabric instead of plastic

Recycled PET fabric is one of the alternatives with greatest impact on the environment. High quality polyester yarns are produced from recycled PET, through the recycling of polyethylene terephthalate packaging, such as plastic bottles.

Thus, in addition to other added value, such as the reduction in the use of plastic or the possibility of using water-based paints in this type of material, with this choice it is also possible to save natural resources and give life to new materials that will go to the garbage or are constantly found in the sea.

The reduction in CO2 emissions and energy use are also added value achieved through this innovation.
